The grammar in the book is awful. The instructions are incomplete. This is not a beginner book. I would not recommend this book. I'm sorry I wasted my money.
The instructions in this book are difficult to read (I have the Kindle Edition). Run on she t fed. Unclear instructions.
This book has basic patterns!! The authors explained them properly with pictures! It's a good and easy read for beginners.
Was given this book as compensation for an honest review.There are 18 very nice quilts in this book with pictures of the finished quilts and several more pictures to explain the construction method a little better. Unfortunately the author's grasp of the English language seems to be very new and therefore very hard to understand. As a quilter (beginning-intermediate level), I will definitely need to consult other books to complete the patterns for most of the quilts given. Also, there are no specific materials lists given for any of the quilts. Ms Dunn has beautiful ideas, but her publisher needs to give her a hand by providing an English speaking editor with quilt pattern experience.
When I was first married 40 some yrs ago, I made a very simple quilt out of pre cut quilt squares, batting and a sheet. My goal was to eventually make a beautiful quilt to hang on the wall. Life, kids, and grandkids kept me too busy to sit long enough to get back to quilting. This book has pictures and instructions and easy to follow tips to make beautiful quilts and you can make then any size, from place mats to lap quilts to full size bedding. I plan to try my hand at this again, when life slows down. there are different patterns and pictures, and I think the stip quilting would be a fun project that I might use my assortment of denim.... The instructions are written so if you can only do a little at a time, you will still end up with a lovely quilt.
Funny, isn't it, how things sometimes work out? I have been toying with the idea of trying my hand at quilting. Nothing fancy or big. Certainly nothing sewn by hand; I have a beautiful brand new sewing machine that needs a workout. And then I receive a copy for review of Quilting for Beginners. Well...!Please understand that I come at the art of quilting add less than a rank amateur. I know very little about any of it. But, as I eagerly leafed through the book, several this caught my eye. It contains lots and lots of photos and illustrations and I think that's great! I can often grasp a new technique or concept more easily if I can reference a picture.In additions to the pix, the directions in Quilting for Beginners seem to be concise and well written.There are 18 quilts from which to choose and I am hoping to make a trip to my favorite brick and mortar craft and fabric store before the week is up.I am giving the book 5 stars mainly because its style seduced me into trying my hand at quilting.
I am so confused after reading this book. I don't like to write negative things but let me tell you, I've got a headache from trying to read this book. Excellent pictures and diagrams but really unclear instructions. Only an advanced seasoned quilter who is also a mind reader can make a quilt using this book as a guide. Good luck to the rest of us, it we try to use this book as a guide.
However the first quilt pattern in this book is hexagons. I consider myself a confident beginner the however at this point I would not try hexagons, nor would the woman who is teaching me recommend them. There are a few other quilt in here that I would not deem beginning.
