We spent nearly a year researching for our trip to Suriname and Guyana. Finding both general and then specific information was not easy until we got the Bradt Suriname book. By the time we actually arrived in Suriname we felt like we had a solid understanding of the country, culture, and more important, what we wanted to see and do while there. We were well prepared and relied heavily on the guidance provided in the book.

This is a good travel guide, and, suitably for the destination, puts emphasis on nature. E.g., the tips about independent travel to Brownsberg were very useful. It is also a good source of information about remote sites only practically accessible through tour operators, although some (like Kaiser Mountains or Tafelberg) are hardly mentioned. I have have one serious complaint about the Kindle edition: the maps are so small that any lettering is completely unreadable - and, at least in my android Kindle version, it is not possible to enlarge the images.

Is not of the quality and information level as travel guides from Dorling Kindersley.More illustrations and maps are needed.Many maps are completely un-readable in the e-book version due to very small text (maps can not be enlarged)

Terrible book. I can’t believe I had to buy this for a class. I’m not sure who I should be more angry with the person that wrote it, the person that thought it would be a good idea to publish it, or my instructor for deciding he should teach from it (even though he admits that he doesn’t like it either and wants to fInd an alternative).Many of the problems at the end of the chapters aren’t even relevant to what you read about in the chapters. Many of the chapters have the same exact questions.Th authors try to over simply topics from clasical physics on wave mechanics and propagation to the extent that he’d be better off plagiarizing a high school physics book because there is very little explanation of what is being discussed but you have these formulas discussed in the chapters and there are virtually no usable example problems. I mean it’s confounding that a book like this is published and we have to pay this much money for a poorly written piece of garbage. Anyone reading this review that is buying this book because it’s required should raise hell with their department chairs.

This book is a beast, its definably not for the average IT major, more of the cable guy or electric engineer!!

It is usefull to use for the class, but sometime I find it too theoretic.By the way, It's not easy to get the instructor's materials from Stallings' website.

Didn't actually read it, just was required for class. Book goes into a ton of detail, not sure how much is relevant

This is a paperback. Its almost exactly what the teacher ordered, but weirdly the practice questions are not the same as the teacher's hard cover book. The rest of the content matches though.

Stallings has been a great writer on many communications topics but this book falls far by the wayside. As a personal note, he and I graduated with PhDs from MIT the same time and the same Course, but I did not know him. I have used his previous books with great success to get up to speed in many areas. This one, however, is way off the mark. First this is almost a rewrite at best of the 2nd Edition.It fails to discuss 3G and has barely a mention of 4G. Given the dominance of wireless Internet/IP access I would have expected some detailed discussion at the very least. Second, and this is a significant drawback, and a Publisher problem, this is a paperback edition and the pages are so flimsy as to be unusable. The print is almost unreadable. Thus, between the failure to come up to date and the poor quality of production, I would strongly suggest seeking alternatives, even the 2nd Edition. It is a shame, since Stallings has produced many gems in the past.

Content-wise, it is full of information and it provides helpful informative diagrams. The writing style is very technical and to the point. The end of chapter questions are split into two groups, review questions (to recall what was read) and problem questions (to use analytical thinking). Physically, the book cover and pages are very thin, making it a reasonably compact book to carry.

Don't buy this book if you can help yourself.The beginning part of this message was written on 9/10/2016. I'll keep updating this interview if necessary. This book has really pissed me off.There is a giant mistake just in the beginning of the book:On page 15, it says that "There is a direct relationship between the information-carrying capacity of a signal and its bandwidth: The greater the band width, the higher the information-carrying capacity." Then it gives three examples to show the relationship.What is ridiculous is, in all the three cases (Cases I, II, and III, pages 15-17), the information-carrying capacity totally has nothing to do with the bandwidth, but only depends on the fundamental frequency (f) of the carrier wave.How can an author make such a basic, serious mistake is beyond me.Furthermore, it doesn't explain why the frequencies of the harmonics have to be the odd multiples of the fundamental frequency (f). -- I know why, but many other students don't, and the professor didn't explain it either even a student asked. She just said, "To make it a square wave, the frequencies of the harmonics have to be the odd multiples of the fundamental frequency (f)." And she didn't say "why." I wanted to explain, but I just didn't want to "show off."Anyway, it's not a good book. I had to get it only because it was required for my class.Today (9/15/2016) I found more mistakes in the book. On pages 95-97, about the ground wave, sky wave, and line-of-sight wave, the text says they are of "up to about 3 MHz," "3-30 MHz," and "above 30 MHz" respectively, while the numbers on Figure 5.1 says "below 2 MHz," "2-30 MHz," and "above 30 MHz."Also today (9/15/2016), Example 5.1 on page 101, in the text the satellite is 35,863 km from earth, but in calculation, the number becomes 35.853×1000,000 -- You see? The last three digits of the two are not the same: one is "863," and the other "853."How can a person make so many mistakes in a textbook? And this is just the beginning.The book is trash.

I recently traveled to Europe for the first time. I bought Rick's Best Of books for Italy, Scotland and England. I have to say we found them invaluable! The maps, the tips, the suggestions on what to see, when to see it, how to see it, etc. I never failed in following Rick's advice! To be honest I was very, very happy with these books but I probably in the future will get the full books that he offers on a country. Meaning instead of buying the Best of Scotland I would buy Scotland. I know now it will just give more tips, more data on more places and that could only be better!I would highly recommend these guides for any traveler. They will be my go-to guides from now on!

Spent almost 3 weeks exploring Italy. Rick Steve's book was a great resource. In fact, in the Cinque Terre (Monterosso), I complimented the chef of a small restaurant and mentioned that Rick Steve's Italy book had led me to her restaurant and that it was the best meal I'd had in Italy. To my surprise, the other two couples sitting inside both spoke up and said that was why they were eating there - and one woman pulled out her book to show us!Highly recommend this book. Take it with you.If there was a negative...I wish it had included Sicily, too.

Full of great info. Unfortunately, the pages I needed most were misprinted, and so fuzzy they were difficult to read. Otherwise a great book full of useful info. Would be great if the sections were separated, so that the book could more easily be pulled apart - it’s a heavy book, so I’m only planning on taking the sections I need.

This was my best purchase while preparing to travel to Italy for the first time. I used this guidebook before, during and after my trip. The tips for preparing for a trip were invalueable. I was well prepared on what to expect when I got to Italy. The section on practacalities was spot on. While I was in Italy I kept my guidebook with me everywhere I went. It was a great reference. Once I got home I used the guidebook to help me label my pictures. A physically smaller book would have been a little more convienent but I was glad I had this book with me.

There are details such as how much a museum admission costs, where to stay in whichever city you're visiting, walking tours, basic language guides, important phone numbers, etc. But the book isn't too thick or heavy so it will be easy to carry around. This will be a great tool for us to use on our trip!

Haven't been to Universal in over 10 years, so we decided to get this. It's great. It tells you everything you need to know about the parks, the hotels, the food. Even gives info on other hotels and restaurants in the area that are NOT Universal's, which is great. We found a hotel here that we probably wouldn't have found otherwise. Lots of info about how everything works, if you might want Express Pass. Gives multiple opinions on rides, too, which I liked. Big fan.

We had not been to Universal Studios in years, and were planning to go on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This book did not leave any questions we had unanswered. The information on the hotels is very extensive as was the information on all of the parks and the rides. I like how it includes the ratings by age groups of the rides and entertainment. The most helpful was the itinerary's which we used and changed around to our liking. You're paying a lot of money at these parks, and this book will help you get the most bang for your buck.

This is the best guide I have been able to find on Universal Orlando. The series is also really helpful in general. I have a couple of years for Universal and a couple for Disney World. I also have the 2017 Universal Orlando Unofficial Guide and wasn’t sure if it was worth updating. However, I’m glad I did. It had enough new information to make it worth it, at least to me. If you don’t spend too much time reading the guides, it might not be worth it for you though.

I loved this book. Really helped me plan our family vacation to Universal Studios Florida! Can't recommend it enough!

This is my second "guide" purchase for Universal, the first one did not meet my expectations. This one met the expectations I have when I purchase a guide. I would recommend.

Chock full of great Universal Orlando Information, but I had forgotten how painfully wordy the first few UG chapters always are. Also, I swear they are still using the same illustrations they did ten plus years ago.

I bought this book when we were going to Disneyland 2 years ago and it was a life saver. This book also did not disappoint! It helps with a written plan in the back.

I’ve purchased the Unofficial Guide books since the early 90’s (before the Internet had so much information), and they are still my number one go-to for vacation planning.

I love that it doesn't have a glossy finish. No more ink smears!

Cute design - but the January page has a misspelled quote! "Not all who wonder are lost" - supposed to be "Not all who wander"

March has a misprint - the date 23 was printed where there should have been 25.

The quotes on the calendar are not the true quotes. It does function as a calendar.

I like it but I did notice that for the month of March they went from the 24th to the 23rd and then back to the 26th. They aren't so good on the proof reading.

Love the inspiration and just the perfect size

Quotes listed incorrectly, numbers out of sequence.

Perfect for at my cubicle. The quotes are good, the designs are cute and I love that it's a matte finish, makes writing on it so much easier.
