I'd heard of Mark Yarnell, but always as the "guy who wrote the book on network marketing". This fascinating book tells the other side of the story. Anyone who has been in marketing (network, online, or traditional) for any length of time knows the various platitudes that are exhorted as ways to connect with potential customers and make sales. But what does it mean to really LIVE those values? More importantly, what does it mean to be a member of the household having to live with someone who is living those values? Those were the elements of the book that elevated it to a five-star experience for me.And, of course, there's actual meat here, as well. The seven core decisions have the hallmarks of true wisdom. They are incredibly simple, and not at all easy. After only a few days, I haven't reached the point of being able to decide YES to all of them every day, but I'm certainly deciding to CONSIDER them each day, which is already a great improvement. After all, we cannot change what we do not recognize.Thank you, Amy Yarnell Carter for writing this book, and giving us a glimpse, not only of your father's legacy, but of his humanity.

Mike Bond’s collection of American poetry opens the reader to the wide-open nature of the mountainous North West. From the Native Americans to the ranchers, the region inspires the reader with rugged land and its wildlife. There is a primitive feel to the poetry that reflects the rustic nature of the land. It is the Great Spirit links people to the earth and the environment that science seems too refined and sterile for. It is the beat that mimics the human heart in the state of nature and also a reminder of how man has changed not only the landscape and the planet. The poetry is a symbol of beauty that reminds us to tread lightly on the earth much like its first inhabitants. A beautiful collection of poetry that will make the adult reader remember his childhood draw to the West.

Too show diversity and comparison, especially when the content deals with every day issues such as race, environmental issues and other social issues.This anthology has a little bit of everything, some pieces I could definitely relate to as a human being and others I could see as valuable teaching tools. When I say a teaching tool I do mean the obvious ‘how to write a poem’ but also as a means to open a dialogue about social issues and get the students thinking and reacting. I few I noted and will go back to for further study were ‘Homecoming’ , ‘All this Time’, Manhattan Elegy’, and ‘Escape’ ( which I think I will use in unison with a ‘The Rain Horse’). Another piece that I will definitely include in my Protest Poetry section will be ‘Painted Hills’ which shows a rare glimpse into the Native American issues we don’t often see addressed in global poetry.Even though I only mentioned a few above there are plenty more worth reading in this lovely collection of work. The themes are varied and Bond uses a variety of styles to get his messages across.Overall, I would give this anthology a solid 4.5.

Poetry collections are like molded jello salads on a holiday buffet table. Some go straight for them, others avoid them on principle, and most of us take a bit, sample and perhaps savor the tasty bits within.Mike Bond and his work are new to me, and I was excited for the opportunity to engage with these poems (thanks, NetGalley and Big City Press!).I started with the preface and wonder why it was included. It starts with cave men “chewing mammoth bones” and devolves from there into some ranting (against poetry in academia) and scolding (“we sh'ould all write poetry.”). Mmm okay. Moving on.On to the poems: there’s a huge variety here. Some in rhyme, many free verse. Some are several pages long, others very short (“Nothing” is 5 words!). I admire Bond’s ambition in trying out so many forms.Some of these poems really trouble me. “Old Fool” is about a very elderly man and his age related afflictions, and “so we suffer him.” There’s no love or appreciation for the person in the aged body, just the realization that “we each will soon enough be like him.” Another poem, “Every Good,” states that “every good intention hides a spine of poison.” I realize as I write this that I look for humanism in poetry and am not finding it here. Bond seems to find meaning and beauty in nature (often from the point of view of a Native American gaze) and not in people.I suspect there are many readers who are looking for other things in their poems, and who will appreciate this more than I did.

As long as I can remember I’ve loved poetry. I grew up devouring Rod McKuen, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and in more recent years Mary Oliver and Billy Collins. When I saw The Drum That Beats Within Us and read about the poet, I was intrigued and was fortunate to receive an advance copy to read.This is such a beautiful book of poetry. I started reading it slow to savor just a few poems a day until I felt the need to read more and more and finish, unwillingly. I’m looking forward to purchasing a physical copy of this book and will treasure it as I do so many of my other favorite poetry volumes.The language is beautiful, heartbreaking, romantic, sad, savvy, and nostalgic all at once. From longer poems to very short, thought provoking poems, the lines of each take the reader to a world the poet has experienced or given much thought to. Truly beautiful, I look forward to exploring more work by Mr. Bond.

I would consider this book part of an unnamed series. There's a prequel, The Vow that precedes this book. Rosemarie is considering three knights in this book. The fate of the other two knights is explored in two other books, A Daring Sacrifice, and For Love and Honor.It's only a month before Rosemarie's 18th birthday when an old family friend shows up and tells her that her fate could be different. When her parents died, she found out she'd been chosen to be a sacrifice to God and would enter the convent on her 18th birthday. Her friend, the duke, tells her that if she marries before that time, she'd released from the vow.Derrick is one of the knights, but he doesn't feel worthy and doesn't want to compete with his two best friends for the hand of the young maiden. It's clear that she prefers him, but he holds back for a long time. Dangers threaten the contestants as well as the people Rosemarie is supposed to protect.The book is written in first person, which makes the first half of it predictable and somewhat boring. Being inside the mind of a 17-year-old discovering her feelings of love was a bit much. Every once in a while, we get to read from Derrick's point of view. At first, his chapters are so far apart that I wondered why they were in there at all, but toward the end, more chapters included his point of view, and I was able to engage in the story itself and less with Rosemarie's struggle with her feelings. And the end was just weird.Overall, if you're looking for a straight up romance, complete with fluttering stomachs and confusing feelings, then I recommend this book. For me, it was too sappy, and I wish there had been more balance between the points of view. Sadly, not for me.

I wish I didn't pay money for this.The heroine's parents die leaving her to rule alone. Her powerful godfather could help or advise but instead he goes off for three years leaving her unprotected and unsupported in the hands of two unscrupulous people. The first is a greedy priest who wants all her wealth for the church and tries to block her using it to help the poor and starving. The second is a sadistic sheriff who ignores her laws and tortures and murders without censure because she has no help to stop him. Thanks godfather.The heroine is rather silly and not very interesting anyway so I got tired of waiting for a Hea.Oh also in the prequel she and a neighbor fall in love but find out she is promised to the church so they can't marry. He says he will love her forever. Here 3 years later we find she can marry if she finds love before her 18th birthday. But the neighbor just got married so too bad. What was the point of the prequel at all? I wasted money on that one too.

Rosemarie had resigned herself to a future in a convent until her godfather appears with an escape clause: her parents' Vow can be forgotten if she falls in love and marries in the next month; with three handsome knights vying for her hand, she's realizing there's a chance for love, but someone is going to dangerous lengths to prevent it.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 4.2 -- Plot is engaging, with both cliche/overly convenient elements and some more unique aspects. Has a few shaky bits and/or a slight lack of focus. Setting is clear and mostly believable. Timeline is clear and consistent. I liked the vaguely fairy-tale-ish aspect of the story, with some subtle parallels to Sleeping Beauty, and the sort of bait-and-switch villain. But it also felt like it was trying too hard for a totally unnecessary bit of 'which knight was it' mystery, and the courtship activities felt slightly anachronistic. Jousting, archery contests, dances, feasts -- those fit the time period. But romantic dinners for two in the garden and a craft show with no attendees but the couple on their 'date'? Yeah, those sound much more like a modern reality show. This can be read as a stand-alone, but it does tag on at the very end a hint of what's to come for Sir Collin in the next book.Characters: 4 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and dynamic. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Definite strong points in the relationships between characters. I liked both Rosemarie and Derrick. Her struggle with wanting to be treated as an adult, but also wanting to rely on others for advice, is very relatable, among other things. I also appreciated that while she initially reacts to Derrick's apparent disinterest with petty-but-justifiable anger, she ultimately goes out of her way to pursue him, instead. Nice. They really are a good team, each calling the other out on misconceptions they have about themselves and their fate, and driving each other to be better. The other characters are presented as decently unique and believable people, but we don't see a lot of growth or depth from minor characters.Mechanics and Writing: 4.4 -- Few, if any, typos, punctuation issues, or word errors. (<5/100pgs) Generally solid use of POV, with a few errors or oddities. Skillful writing that adds to the story. Errors include: homophone confusion, mild punctuation or formatting issues, some mildly awkward or inconsistent bits. POV is all first person, mainly Rosemarie, but some Derrick, especially later in the book. It would've been nice to have some warning when we switch POVs, but there's not. I would sometimes get a paragraph or two into a new section or chapter before realizing who was speaking, which was definitely irritating, but perhaps not seriously confusing.Redeeming Value: 4.7 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified, though there is some shaky ground. No explicit sex scenes. Clear moral guidelines for behavior. Some definite physical attraction, but the characters are generally well-chaperoned, and careful to respect propriety. No more than a few kisses. Some violence, and descriptions of fairly gruesome methods of torture and execution. It doesn't dwell on the graphic details, and it's clear that we're meant to disapprove of torture entirely, but it's definitely there. A pretty clear theme of seeking God's direction in prayer, and then following where God leads, even if perhaps you're given conflicting advice. Men can be fallible and untrustworthy; God is not. Also an emphasis on generosity and care for the poor, as opposed to overindulging in extravagant luxuries.Personal Enjoyment: 4 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining, with perhaps an issue or two that tempered my pleasure. I’d enjoy reading it again.

AMAZING! Another great add to this series. I love this Universe and with each book or short story it just makes me more excited. Also I liked that before each story it tells you exactly where it falls into the reading order, so if you're like me and OCD about that sort of thing you're all set. I don't want to give too much away or spoilers because I liked being surprised as I read this.Red Wine And Blood: This is a glimpses at the Bloodwar and some of the Salvatore family and their friends. Enter in Ashwin Metcalfe and Ignacio Salvatore, who are a couple you want to know more about. Loved being able to see what things were like back then for the families but also how even in war time there is love.A History Of Trouble: This is the mammoth case that was talked about at the end of book 1. Angel, Simon, Eroch and Detective O'Malley definitely have a adventure that will make you chuckle all the way through. Add in some sexy scenes from your favorite couple and it's a fantastic read.A Dragon In The City: Eroch's POV and a day in the life of this beastie! Loved being able to see him just being him and the world around him. Talked about his new family and also Dragons which was fun and interesting and left me excited to know more. And of course the pigeon wars continue as they should.Fae's Gold: Great glimpse at what we have to look forward to with Daniel and Rory's book. They are just too damn cute and sweet I'm already am addicted to them. This is filled with so much I don't want to ruin it but you'll have heartwarming scenes you've been waiting for, hints for the future and smile as Daniel starts to come into his own. Oh, plus sexy Fae with a sword so who isn't going to like that?

This book seems like it missed a few editing stages. While the stories are fun to read and give insight into other characters, the portrayals seem to deviate somewhat from the main series and there were a broad range of grammatical and syntax errors. I love SJ and her work with Angel and am excitedly waiting for her next novel. I will continue to read in the future, but this one could use some edits.This is a quick read, several short stories, the bulk of it focused on Daniel who still is only coming across as a kid crying all the time. There is more to discover behind him and the fae, and I look forward to this being fleshed out later and seeing beyond the tears.

I seriously cant thank SJ Himes enough for creating this Anthology. The back stories and little glimpses into my favorite characters' lives was so enjoyable! Im still smiling! I loved Eroch's story the best because that "wee beastie" has stolen my heart! I also loved getting answers to a couple of random questions I had. If you love revisiting characters and enjoy little side stories about them then this is a must!

This was so fun, and I absolutely loved it. I want more Eroch. I want more of all of them please

Short stories from the world of The Beacon Hill Sorcerer. My favorite was the story from Eroch’s point of view.

This anthology is a must-read for fans of the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series. I can never get enough of Angel, Simeon, Eroch, and the BHS world. The stories here are varied, giving us a glimpse of another Salvatore-vampire mate bond from the past, an entertaining story starring a very undead mammoth that also serves as an impressive reminder of just how powerful Angel is, and some delicious Daniel and Rory moments mixed with one tense reminder of what Rory is dealing with.. as well as a significant moment between master and apprentice that had me in tears too. Gah, so much love for these characters!! But guys.. there is also a story from Eroch’s point of view! And it’s freaking amazing. I want a wee beastie. And a sexy vampire mate. And the next BHS book...

Firstly I have to say this is a book for the fans. It’s the book we asked for. This takes place in the year of the Blood Wars 103 on 1897 AD.I’m really hoping we get more of these in the future.A History of Trouble.This one features Angel working a case. He has six dead graduate students and an escaped ten thousand year old mammoth.I love anything that features Angel and Simeon. Plus we also get Eroch and Detective O’Malley.A Dragon in the City.Cute little Eroch.In this one we see things from Eroch’s POV and it’s wonderful and I love him even more, if that’s possible.Faye’s Gold.Angel and Simeon will always be my first Beacon Hill romance and as such they hold a special place in my heart. I’m eagerly awaiting Issac and Constantine’s story. But this anthology was stolen by Daniel and Ruairi.Daniel decides to help Rory with the modern world.“Rory, you need money. Modern money. You can’t buy coffee with gold nuggets or gems. I think. I might be totally wrong,”But walking into the back with a fae lord and a bag of gold doesn’t prove to be as easy as Daniel had expected.When things go wrong Daniel is worried Rory will reach for his sword. It may be glamoured but it’s there. The police are called including everyone’s favourite grumpy detective. Angel and Eroch arrive to save the day and we all know how much dragons like gold.I loved this short book but Faye’s Gold was my absolute favourite. I can’t wait for more of these two.

I am a tennis nut, admittedly, and a Murray fan after watching his struggle for years, finally succeeding at both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon, 2012 - 2013. The book only covers his life from childhood up until a few years before his major successes, and I hope he'll update it one of these days.It was quite interesting to hear, in his own words, how huge sport has been in his life. Other than his family, sport appears to be the only other influence and interest in his life. Which makes me wonder what he'll do with himself once his tennis career ends. The book is really quite honest, without excuses or apologies. I enjoyed learning what makes Andy Murray tick. And it's also been satisfying to watch him gain a lot more control over his emotions on the court, rather than letting every bad shot undermine his self confidence as it used to. I'm looking forward to watching his matches for many more years.

Great book with many personal experiences.

Murray wrote the book with a bit of sarcasm (not during the more serious parts) making the book light and easy to read. Get it!

Murray comes off as somewhat whiney in this autobiography. Complains about his coaches, about the media, about his injuries. I enjoyed the Agassi and Nadal books much more.

I've read biographies of Agassi, Connors, Rafa and Monica Selles. This one is just as good. Great part of the book is about press misunderstandings, but it's full of great insights of Andy's life
