He is also Founder of the Center for Autoimmune Diseases, both at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Israel. Nancy Agmon-Levin is a specialist in Clinical Immunology and Allergology, and serves as Deputy Head of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases, Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Israel. She is also President of the Israel Association for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (IAACI). Lucija Tomljenovic is a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow in the Neural Dynamics Research Group at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Surprisingly readable for the lay person. The bottom line is that there is much valid research across the globe documenting vaccines and their link to a whole host of autoimmune and neurological disorder issues from lupus to fibromyalgia to Diabetes Type 1 to Rheumatoid Arthritis to residual seizures in pre-disposed individuals. Who is pre-disposed? That is an evolving area of study, and one that absolutely needs to mature into a screening process before we eliminate exemptions across the board to vac mandates as California has recently done. It is insane. Whatever benefit vaccines have conferred to humanity must be weighed against the numerous apparent disorders which have and continue (acc to these studies) to result in many individuals. Just got this book and it looks amazing! There is a wealth of research on this topic and much of it is compiled in this highly technical and highly convincing textbook. It's not cheap, but a worthwhile investment for any science geeks who are looking for as much info as possible on this subject. As a physician assistant (PA) trained at Stanford Medical school, I am concerned with the recent push for vaccine mandates when we know that some children will suffer from adverse reactions - ranging from seizures to autoimmune disorders to permanent brain injury or death. Since my main specialty is in working with autoimmune disorders, I find this topic both frightening and fascinating. This book is filled with solid scientific evidence that should encourage doctors to pause before making blanket vaccine recommendations regardless of family history or genetics.

This book is timely, extremely relevant and long overdue. It is filled with science and really offers an understanding and a new language about vaccines in the public domain and finally the mainstream, which does not seek to hide the truth. The truth is that vaccines are medicine and like all medicines, not all formulations are best for each individual. Now we can have some idea of how to identify who they might not be best for and what other alternatives may considered for them. This book legitimizes the paradigm shift, for those who need help making it, to looking at vulnerable individuals and not simply populations at large. This should be a MUST-READ for any pediatrician to see their potential contribution to the immune trajectory of their vulnerable patients.

I purchased this book because, as a member of a family with autoimmune disease, I wanted to know more about this subject and I heard it was a brand new medical school textbook. I figured it would be extremely informative.I have had the book a couple of weeks now and have purused it. The chapters summarize the existing medical research on the topic of vaccines and autoimmunity. At first, I was concerned there was too much corporate influenced science reflected in the summaries in the book, but after further scrutiny I believe this book is a very credible work, and a landmark one. In at least one case, the editors do mention that a study concluding the vaccine in question did not cause the disease in question was sponsored by the vaccine manufacturer and was therefore probably biased. This information markedly increases my confidence in the summaries provided. In addition, they do not beat around the bush when discussing the subject of aluminum adjuvants and the neurological, genetic, and immune system harm they are known to do. This frank discussion by leading researchers in the field of vaccines and autoimmunity directly contradicts the headlines that regularly scream across magazines, newspapers and web pages, and points the finger at nanonized aluminum adjuvants as a factor in many modern epidemics, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Autism. The book is an extremely valuable reference to locate the most important studies in any given area.

I've read a lot of translations of the poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" (I regularly teach it), and I thought that nobody could outdo the standard, quite wonderful version by Marie Borroff (also published by Norton). Well, I've just finished reading Simon Armitage's amazing translation, and I was wrong. Armitage's should be the new standard version used by students and lay readers everywhere. It captures both the energetic alliteration of the original and also its wonderful toggling between formal and colloquial registers. It does a magnificent job of approximating the galloping rhythm of the long verses, but is equally stunning at managing the "bob and wheel" that brings each long verse to comically neat closure (e.g., see Armitage's description of Gawain's emblem, the pentangle -- "[he] bore that badge on both / his shawl and shield alike. / A prince who talked the truth. A notable. A knight," ll.636-39). It takes some poetic chutzpah to fiddle with the Gawain-poet in this way. But Armitage has the versifying courage and the nervy tone just right. I think the 14th-century poet, whoever he was, would admire and appreciate this new version.That's also because Armitage shows humility as a translator too when it matters. For example, he works hard to preserve the delicate moral ambiguities of the original poem. It's difficult to translate Gawain's refusal to give the seductress, the lady of the manor (where his humility, his loyalty and his self-control are tested) a token of his affection with the perfect blend of courtesy and self-regard that is there in the original ("Hit is not your honour to haf at this tyme / A glove for a garysoun of Gawaynes giftes," ll. 1806-07), but Armitage's "it strikes me as unseemly that you should receive / nothing greater than a glove as a keepsake from Gawain" hits the mark pretty well; by placing Gawain's reference to himself in the third-person at the end of the line, he makes us wonder if the hero isn't buying in a bit too easily to the reputation that has preceded him.I'm not going to repeat the plot of the whole poem here; it's well known, easy to find online, and other amazon reviewers have gone over it. Armitage's confidence as a translator is expressed in his willingness to provide the original language of the poem on a facing page (Borroff's translation does not do this), so the reader can take a long look at the luscious original. Sure, he changes a word here or there (every translation does this), but Armitage is scrupulously true to the spirit of the original.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a medieval ;poem written in the fourteenth century by an unknown British poet. He wrote his poem in Middle English. The poem is brilliantly interpreted into modern English by Simon Armitage. It is a mirror into the world of chivalry in the time of the Middle Ages. The tale deals with a pilgrimage undertaken by Sir Gawain a knight in King Arthur's Court at Camelot. He is forced to receive the blow of the Green Knight who appeared one Christmas at Arthur'scourt and had his head lopped off by Gawain. Gawain most travel to the green chapel wherin resides the enigmatic Green Knight to receive condign punishment. The story takes us to medieval court, hunting field, boudoir and is a gem of a story.Excellent! Well worth reading!

Simon Armitage has given this new life with his accomplished translation. You can tell he spent a lot of time and passion into rendering the Middle English (in Cheshire dialect no less) into highly readable contemporary verse, with a few well-chosen ink-well words thrown in for good measure. Not encumbered with footnotes, but it does have some introductory and closing remarks by the translator. Readers should watch the accompanying excellent BBC documentary, hosted by Armitage as he visits local sites in Wales and western England, contemplating the meaning of the story, available on YouTube and other platforms. Into the Christmas revelry at Camelot comes a mysterious Green Knight (almost completely green - skin, hair, armor and horse) with a challenge. He challenges any of the Knights of the Round Table to strike him a blow with a large ax he has and to be willing to receive a similar blow from him a year later. Gawain, Arthur's nephew eventually takes up the challenge and beheads the green knight. However, beheading doesn't keep a good Green Knight down as he picks up his now detached head and warns Gawain that he had better come to get his just desserts on the next New Year's day. We then follow Gawain as he sets out on a long and dangerous journey where his bravery, honesty and purity are challenged.The original author of the poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" is unknown but probably lived in the late 14th century. Although a contemporary of Chaucer, the use of language suggests he lived in the west Midlands or northwest of England. The poem is written in a primarily alliterative style of older Anglo Saxon poetry that was seeing a revival at the time but each stanza ends with five short rhyming lines.Armitage, in his translation, makes the decision to not only follow the stylistic approach of the original but also to reflect the more northern character of the original work's language. The original poem is printed on one page with the translation on the facing page, making it easy to compare one with the other. Even to one with little knowledge of Medieval English, this reviewer for example, much of the original is comprehensible. It is a delight to be able to turn over the page from Armitage's translation and, automatically reading on the left page, continue for a few seconds in the original. However, there are many sections where the meaning of the original is incomprehensible due to words that simply no longer exist in modern usage.In any translation but particularly in poetry, the translator is faced with remaining true to the original language while still imbuing the translation with the less tangible aspects of the writing that made it interesting or even exciting to its original audience. As Armitage says (p14): "Poetry is about manner as much as it is about matter" and his translation is highly successful in balancing manner and matter. His choice of keeping the basic style of the writing produces a work that is easy, interesting and fun to read. One can see from the parallel original that sometimes he veers significantly from the original text but usually to excellent effect and his attempt to retain the "northern " feel produces some fun lines. Here's a couple of example that show the alliteration and northern language:179 "Wel gay was this gome gered in grene" becomes "the fellow in green was in fine fettle"280 " berdles chylder" (beardless children) become " bum-fluffed bairns".Along with some of the recent work of Robert Fagles on Homer and Virgil, this is a modern translation that remains essentially true to the original but produces a poem that gives a feel for the vitality and impact that it would have had on its original audience.

First off, i love the storyline and plot of the book! Im throughly happy with how this book described her whole life, instead of a single event. It also built up a ton of suspense with Goosefeather screeching in her ear every few seconds, "YOU HAVE FIRE!!!" I also love how her clanmates are involved so much in her life. They really mdade a big impact on her life and personality. (Looking at you, Oakheart!) Another part i loved was where Thistleclaw was chosen to mentor Tigerclaw. It kinda explains his thirst for blod originaly coming from Thistleclaw himself. We saw examples of this throughout the bok of his bloodlust, and how he taught Tigerclaw to behave the same way. In the book, it also explains why Whitestorm has such a close relationship with Bluestar. I almost started crying in class at reading how Bluestars kit, Mosskit, died. This story has taken me on a dive off the deep end into clan history. It was also anemotionl rollercoaster! The only fault i find was that there was no ten page manga like the book description said. It might be a random kindle glitch, but just letting you know, in case whoever is reading this is the type of person who flips through these books just to see the manga.Other than that, this book is beautiful. This is Erin Hunters finest masterpiece yet. My end note is this: "LONG LIVE THE WARRIORS!!! LONG LIVE THE CLANS!!!"

I did love this book! There we're the ups and downs of course, but all in all it was a great book.(WARNING:SPOILERS - WARNING:SPOILERS - WARNING:SPOILERS)First of all, I was thoroughly satisfied. Seeing Bluestar grow up and have her tragic relationship with Oakheart made me feel more compassionate about her. I loved how descriptive it was, I could almost feel Bluestar's grief. It was, though, very sad when Thrushpelt died, and I was disappointed when there was no explanation on how he died. At times it was rushed, and didn't make sense, like why Pinestar decided to live with the kittypets. There was no explanation behind his choice, and I think that it was also strange that Pinestar chose Lionpaw to keep his secret safe, instead of a warrior. (Like Bluefur, or Leopardfoot, for example.) It might have lead up to something if there was some kind of explanation behind it, say Pinestar fell in love with a kittypet and happened to be Firestar/Rusty's father. And now there is Tigerclaw - Bluefur knew all the time that Thistleclaw was a dangerous warrior and that he mentored Tigerclaw to be vicious, and Bluestar didn't want Thistleclaw to become deputy. So then why would she, later in the book, trust Tigerclaw so much even though she saw his ambition and hunger for battle? It didn't make too much sense. And I was also disappointed when the book stopped so abruptly! I was excited to see Bluestar meet Firestar for the first time, but that didn't happen. I also think a better plot would be, not that Graypaw/stripe spied on Firestar(Rusty at the time), but stumbled upon him on accident.Anyway, I really loved this book!

This the story of how she learns to hunt prey, lead a group of hunters, and help their clan fight their arch-enemy, RiverClan.Bluestar, from the first moment she is born, is independent, determined and intelligent. Part of the mighty ThunderClan, growing up is difficult for her. She can be outspoken and headstrong, not making too many friends. After her mother dies suddenly, Bluestar must become a warrior at a very young age.However, a prophecy tells of her rise to power and her destruction. "Like fire, you will blaze through the forest. But beware, even the most powerful flames can be quenched by water." (Hunter, 209). The clan medicine cat tells Bluestar (or Bluefur, her warrior name) that she will be destroyed by water. Since all of ThunderClan cats are afraid to go near the water, she ignores the prophecy and does become a useful hunter, warrior and leader of her clan.Bluestar is a stubborn, strong, persistent and independent leader of her clan that doesn't always follow the rules. Read on to see if the prophecy comes true!Bluestar's Prophecy is written by Erin Hunter and is part of series of books about four clans of cats, also in graphic novel format.

Wow! I could not put this book down! Highly recommend for Warriors fans!Spoilers Start here!It was pretty sad though, I cried when a certain cat died and I really wish Bluefur could have kept her kits! I only have one complaint, I feel like certain paets went really fast, for example Whitekit was only like 4 1/2 moons old and then the next chapter was you will now be called Whitestorm. But definitely an amazing book!!!! So glad I read it! It filled in a lot of gaps from the First Series!

The supposition is that her name was a pseudonym for one of the women who modelled for Degas’ sculptures during the last ten years of his life when he was in his seventies, and that the book is an autobiographical account (in which the model, in her mid-twenties, is called Pauline) of what it was like to work for him. During those years Degas was at the height of his fame, stupendously rich, and known for his bon mots. The 58 page-long text, which was originally published in two instalments in the Mercure de France in 1919, eighteen months after Degas’ death, gives a most unflattering picture of the man, though some of his character traits were presumably already known to had had dealings with him: his solitary nature, his gruff manner of speech, his conservatism, his aristocratic disdain for the poor, and his virulent antisemitism. They are, however, unlikely to have known the way he behaved towards his model (and towards his housekeeper); how bad-tempered he often was (though there were days when he was in good humour); how his eye-sight was failing, so that he had to turn from painting to sculpture; how he would work on a statuette for months before abandoning it, not quite finished, to resume work on it at a later stage (only one had ever been exhibited in his life-time); how he always went in for the most stressful poses; how he disliked models talking about or showing any interest in art; how his bladder troubled him; how the fear of death haunted him; how cold his studio was, and how dirty because he forbade his housekeeper to clean it up properly; how he hated spending money on anything except paintings; how repetitive he was, and how foul-mouthed he could be; how he would have fired her if he had known that another artist for whom she posed was a Jew.Pauline’s own attitude towards Degas is interesting: she often feels sorry for the old man, comforts him when he feels sorry for himself. Though she is not afraid of him, she wants to keep her job and knows how to avoid saying things that would anger him. She seems to me rather a nice person, and, though she paints this rather unflattering picture of him, it is free of malice and really rather affectionate –even though he eventually dropped her, without explanations, for other models, and she admits feeling bitter about that.
