This was a good starter book for someone who needed a quick easy read about simplifying your life with kids. It is full of personal stories and kept my interest. But I had already read Simplicity Parenting (one of the books the authors recommend in the resources section) which I thought was excellent, and changed my thinking on a lot of topics, but made this book feel a little redundant. I didn't feel like I took much away from Minimalist Parenting besides some confirmation of what I already knew.

Christine Koh and Asha Dornfest have written the manifesto that ALL modern parents must have at their fingertips! Navigating modern parenthood with all of its "must-haves" and "must dos" and "your child will never get into the right college without this mommy-and-me class" pitfalls is the toughest job many of us will ever face - but Koh and Dornfest give their readers simple (really!) and effective tools for minimizing the clutter, tedium, and angst and squeezing more joy out of everyday parenting. The book actually gives concrete ways to pave a new path where parents can focus on minimizing stress and maximizing joy - all too often parenting books attempt this and fall short. Not "Minimalist Parenting"! It is a fantastic resource for ALL parents, not just new parents. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The best gift for expecting parents - you CAN have too many onesies, but ironically you cannot have too much "Minimalist Parenting"!

I'm about halfway through the book and have already used some of the tips on decluttering my home and schedule. I love the authors' approach - getting readers to think about what really matters and organizing time, space, and money around that. This book does not make you feel guilty (my fear in opening it). Instead, it gives you permission to look hard at what you're doing that doesn't fit with your vision for a joyous family life and jettison what doesn't make sense. I appreciate the many mini tips from parents, as well as their acknowledgment that a good life looks different for different families. I also love hearing the authors' own stories about their challenges as parents. And I appreciate their frequent reassurances that we already are, have, and do enough for our kids. A good book for parents who want a quick read that will help you think at 10,000 feet about what you really want for yourself and your family - and then plenty of tips and resources for organizing your life to maximize that vision.

If you buy one parenting book this year, do yourself a favor and make it this one. "Minimalist Parenting," by Christine Koh and Asha Dornfest, is a gift to today's harried families. In it, you will find short and easily digestible nuggets of wisdom about how to navigate the current cultural climate of "too much" that poisons today's parenting for so many - too much clutter, too much rushing, too many activities, too many choices...and not enough time for what matters most: our family, friend, and community connections; free play; spontaneity; and self-care. Christine and Asha pave a path for getting clear about one's values, and how - simply and specifically - to align daily family life with those values. And they manage to accomplish all of this in a tone that is deeply supportive and validating of their readers. Inspiring and practical tips, references, and resources abound. I can't recommend "Minimalist Parenting" highly enough. MINIMALIST PARENTING: Enjoy Modern Family Life More by Doing Less.

It's okay. Nothing that was like "bam, yeah!" Just eh, okay.

I've tabbed a couple pages in this book. There is nothing ground breaking here, but too often parents get caught up in all the craziness and forget to relax and that all our extra BS isn't necessary.

I just love this book because it puts into words an approach to parenting that is difficult to find these days -- one that puts flexible, creative, everyday experiences at the center of family life (rather than the accumulation of more and more things, toys, structured activities). One of the premises of the book is that if you put your family's values at the center of your decision-making, you will make better decisions about what to do with your and your kids' time. The authors have great, quick, practical suggestions for how to 'free up' time so that there is the possibilty to be fun, flexible, and creative. It's like a parenting book and and a time-management book all in one. I give this book a hearty thumbs-up!

I started this on this on a 5-hr plane ride and couldn't put it down. Filled with practicable guidance, helpful tips, and "have you thought about this?" questions, Minimalist Parenting is a great resource for parents looking for balance, space, and more "room for remarkable." Check it out!

I really enjoyed how this framed Paul's letters and missions in their historical context. Giving political, cultural, technical, and geographic details to the time, places, events, and people around at the time increases my appreciation and understanding of Paul's letters one hundred fold. To learn what places like Ephesus and Corinth were like, or what due process and punishment was like in the Roman world was eye opening. This book helped cast Paul's letters from "books of the Bible" into living historical documents. Bravo to the author.Sometimes it felt a like historical fiction, however, as details were described that could never really been. Known. But that was stated up front, and a discerning reader should enjoy the embellishment without feeling offended.

Do you wonder about who Paul is? Where did he come from? He was not one of the original 12. We read his letters about every Sunday. I found his life to be amazing. John Pollock has done a great job researching Paul's life and ministry. I am very pleased to have chosen this book to read.

This telling of the apostle Paul's life really puts his writings, life and times into perspective. He becomes a flesh and blood person instead of just an historic Biblical writer. The author thoroughly researched the culture, politics and geographical terrain at the time of Paul's life, and tells his story in narrative form. Reading the epistles in the New Testament now I "see" Paul in a new light. I highly recommend this book.

I bought this because they had a Kindle special and I loved it. I've studied Acts and several of Paul's letters, but this narrative made him real to me. I never felt like it was fictionalized, which was important to me.

This book gave reality to Paul's writings. Combining the history of the era gave a great feeling of bringing Paul's words to life. His epistles are daily bread to the soul and I now am fed to the full reading the work of the Holy Spirit live in him and impressed in a new way.This is a "must read" for all people everywhere. Your life in Christ will be found, renewed, grown.

I want to make this 3.5. At times it was wonderful. You could see the sea and the storms that crashed the ship Paul was in. At other times I would be counting pages to see how much more I had to read. It has made me want to catalog the order of Paul's letters in the New Testament and read them in order in light of this book. It certainly makes each of these letters more relevant when you read them within the context of when and how they were written.

This was a fascinating read. I have always been inspired by Paul and what I read of him in Acts and his epistles but this book did a great job of filling in some of the gaps in his life. The author speculates at times but in my opinion he does not over do. One does not to agree with all the speculations made in this book to gain a lot of new insight into the life and ministry of the great apostle. I feel that after reading this book that I will have more insight when reading the New Testament.John Pollock was able to write a well done compelling biography on one of the most compelling, world changing individuals to ever live. I highly recommend it to any fan of biblical history, or any lover of Paul's writings.

Donald L. Pavia earned his BS degree in chemistry from Reed College and his PhD in organic chemistry from Yale University. The print quality of the illustrations is dreadful. This is very bad, because to understand spectra and illustrations one has to actually see them. I suppose they do this to avoid copying of the kindle book, so on one hand I can understand that, but on the other it makes the kindle book useless. I rented this after seeing the hardcopy, clearly the kindle book is nowhere near as clear as the original.I recommend to buy the hardcopy or get another book, the kindle book is not worth the high price.The book it self would be excellent.

Book is in good condition as promised. However, I really hate the lack of organisation and clarity in it. It's like all experiments and techniques are jumbled up. Very annoying to follow and create my lab notebook from.

Makes lab more confusing than it should be. The procedures are long and confusing when in reality the actual experiment is so simple. Only have it cause prof requires it.

I mean...I'm not sure how to review this book. It is a piece of incredible artistic work, only because it really allows you into Yoko Ono's thought process. It gives us a glimpse of how she viewed the world, her ideology and her quirkiness. Her creativity came through in every piece, it really gave me a clear idea how she worked and how she is an artist in every sense of the word. It is an intimate look into her works - music, art, poetry, film and exhibitionism. In every aspect of her life, her uniqueness shone. There were parts that probably went completely over my head, and others where I found myself pausing for a minute to reread and let it sink in.Although this is a book of instructions, I will openly admit that I barely followed any of the instructions given in this book. I think Yoko Ono might appreciate that I didn't, taking it as a sign of individualism, of assertiveness, maybe even rebellion? I don't know. I think I may be talking out of my ass - excuse the language. But that's the effect that Yoko Ono has on you, really.Some instructions were very simple: "Light a match and watch till it goes out"Others were interesting: "Carry a bag of peas. Leave a pea wherever you go."Others were impossible: "Fly."Some instructions were creative: "Painting to be slept on. Hang it after sleeping on it for more than 100 nights."And some were intimate: "Listen to each other's pulse by putting your ear on the other's stomach."Some instructions your mind couldn't help but follow: "Think that snow is falling. Think that snow is falling everywhere all the time. When you talk with a person, think that snow is falling between you and on the person. Stop conversing when you think the person is covered by snow."Then there were passages that were just beautiful thoughts:"It's sad that the air is the onlything we share.No matter how close we get to each other,there is always air between us.It's also nice that we share the air.No matter how far apart we are,the air links us."What beautiful poetry, and what a beautiful thought.Then there's humor and satire:"I wonder why men can get serious at all. They have this delicate long thing hanging outside their bodies, which goes up and down by its own will."A gem of a book, definitely worth keeping around.

Inspiring and thoughtful, this little book of instructions already has me thinking of exercises I can to to get my creativity going again. I'm only sorry I waited two years after putting this on my wish list to purchase it. I started following Yoko's Twitter feed, and she's pretty much doing the same thing there.If you love Fluxus, Dada, and Surrealism, you will love this book. Imaginative little gems range from the Imppossible ("Drill a hole in the sky...") to the Possible ("Draw a map to get lost.") to the Inspirational ("Listen to the sound of the earth turning."). All her words are aimed toward touching the creativity of the thinking person and igniting the imagination.If you don't get this book, you should read a bit about the Fluxus movement, Surrealism, and Dada before attempting it again. You do have to have a bit of background knowledge about art to understand why this is art and why it is important. If art doesn't make you think or feel, then it is not doing its job. (Even if it makes you angry that its called art--then it has succeeded in being art.)As others here have mentioned, Ms. Ono was a very well off and respected artist long before her association with John Lennon. Admittedly, I didn't really understand her work until I attended her retrospective at the SFMOMA a few years ago and was completely inspired. Her work has a way of opening the mind unlike any other artist. It is important when engaging with her art to not be mentally closed off. Not always easy! But you can do it!As a long time Beatles fan, I did originally hold some reservations about Ms. Ono, but the more I engaged with her work and learned about her, the more I have come to love and admire her. After all, how could I respect and admire John Lennon so much and not appreciate the person he loved so dearly and inspired his most beautiful work?

I had gotten away from this series because the stories just didn't grab me. I took a chance on this one due to the plethora of good reviews. I am glad I did. It may be the best one in the entire series. Fast-moving plot, a great "old meets new" theme (samurai and robots). A couple of plot holes were evident (they can crank out convincing Austin robots in a couple of days???) and still some of that annoying wisecracking spouted by the characters whilst being shot at by the bad guys. I would ding it a half star for that, but I have no problems tagging this one with 5 stars.

Another spectacular novel by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown. It is always fascinating how these authors weave the past and future together in a cohesive reading. You will not be able to put it down until the last page including the explanations.

Clive Cussler has written another exciting Kurt Austin adventure, and the stakes are higher than ever.On the ocean floor, the Chinese are drilling for a deposit that promises to be one of the strongest ever found. But the drilling has come at a price, for all over the earth, water levels are rising. Kurt Austin and his sidekick Joe Zavala are in Greenland, working on the problem of the rising water levels. With the news of the operation in the East China Sea, Kurt and Joe head that way.But Kurt and Joe may have finally met their match, for the operation in the ocean has now shifted to Japan, as more of the deposit may be located there. Why does it seem like the books end too soon! I do my best to wait patiently for new releases to come out and bam! I DEVOURED IT! The stories flow. The books allow you to become one with the characters. Now here I wait for the next release.

The Rising Sea is written like you are actually there. I love the way so much research goes into the book. It is sad to see our world going into direction of this future. Anybody that loves a fast pace book where you have no idea where it will take you.

THE RISING SEA is a great continuation of Clive Cussler. A hard boo to put down as are all his books. I feel as his writing improves with each release. I highly recommend getting all of his books and enjoying all of them. I can boot wait for the next release

To me, Cussler books are written to a formula that has proven successful for years. A world wide disaster of some sort, an evil villain, generally ultra rich looking for domination of some sort, a beautiful female to help along the way and the heros to save the world. Here again it is Austin and Zavala. This book follows the formula perfectly. As a reader, you suspend any thought of reality and just sit back and enjoy. Not art, but a good way to pass the time on a rainy day
