Having read only the first 3 chapters of Pitch Anything I am already qualified to say that this summary is NOT a summary. It barely covers the first two chapters and does so without any evident insight into the essential points made. I can't imagine that the rest of the book doesn't offer anything worth commenting, but that's the impression one would perforce draw from this absurdly minimalist survey. I've taught 7th graders that would have done a more comprehensive job as book reportKindle expected me to take 30 minutes to read this...it took less than 4!

I am a Roman Catholic convert from atheism and Protestantism who grew up as a national and religious minority in an Eastern Orthodox country. As such, this book was very helpful for me in challenging some of my visceral prejudices and filling in my lack of knowledge in church history and the development of different ideas and manifestations of Petrine primacy and apostolic succession in the early Church.Fr. Cleenewerck's explanation of the Eucharistic ecclesiology of Metropolitan John Zizioulas was alone worth the price of the book. It truly brought a fresh perspective that I think will be more and more important as Vatican II's effort to properly integrate primacy and collegiality continues to unfold in our times. By the way, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's 1991 "Called to Communion," also strongly recommended, directly engages these ideas as well. Also, I don't ultimately think Eucharistic ecclesiology is incompatible with [even post-Vatican I] Catholic ecclesiology when the latter is understood properly in context, rather than as a caricature laden with anti-Roman historical baggage.Furthermore, I greatly appreciated Fr. Cleenewerck's honest effort to treat the questions he brought up in a nuanced, fair and scholarly fashion, and criticizing shoddy and superficial "pop apologetics" on both sides.I had two major problems with this book. First, there is a LOT of repetition, including repeating extensive Patristic quotes as many as 4-5 times throughout the book. I can see how repetition may be useful to drive home an important point, or how the same quote can serve many purposes in different contexts, but the constant repetition did become highly annoying, and a lot of it in my opinion was avoidable. Second, I got the Kindle version and I don't know if this problem is unique to the e-book, but there are a lot of typos and bad formatting that negatively affect the flow and readability (and for some, perhaps even the credibility) of the book.Nonetheless, despite the problems above, and despite the fact that I disagree with Fr. Cleenewerck's conclusion (i.e. that we can somehow trace our steps back to an arbitrary point in church history, in this case the Council of Sardica, and "start over" on primacy as though the last thousand years hadn't happened in the West), and while I remain a faithful Roman Catholic, I DO recommend this book to anyone, including Catholics, who would like to be challenged fairly and intelligently, and who are tired of cheap pop apologetics that gloss over the complexities of our common church history.

I am a cradle Catholic and agree with the other reviewer that Cleenewerck's work is well referenced, and is written in a balanced and fair manner. This book makes a compelling (definitive?) case that the papacy as we currently understand it, evolved over centuries in response to geopolitical forces, and the need to respond to early heresies. The evidence is overwhelming that it was not viewed by early bishops as a right ordained by Christ. That evidence actually begins overtly in the New Testament, but is well documented by letters from early church fathers and bishops. The same conclusion is reached, somewhat reluctantly (and implied in muted voices), in the book Peter in the New Testament -- a collaborative work by eminent Roman Catholic and Lutheran clergy and scholars. Cleenewerck's book won't necessarily solve strongly held differences of opinion, but his work provides a data-driven framework to understand how the differences developed. I believe that only serves the common good of all Christians.

Fr. Laurent Cleenewerck's presentation of the fundamental issues underlying the ongoing schism between the Orthodox and Catholic churches is the most fair-minded, honest, and complete report of the issue I have ever read. In my mind, it should be required reading for any Orthodox Christian or Catholic who wants to seriously understand what divides the two churches. The reader will be relieved to discover that many differences between the two communions are not as theologically insurmountable as they seem.I have taken off one star because Fr. Laurent's citation practices are not always consistent, which would make it quite difficult in some cases for the reader to find the original source of something he quotes. Nonetheless, I do not view this as a major issue with the book.

I was in the Eastern Orthodox church(es) in the Pacific Northwest for 7 years (I've been OO now for the past 3-4 years). When I came into the faith, I was taught that there was now a gulf between EO and RC churches so vast that it was best to see them as heretics. This point was so hammered into me that it inadvertently tainted my vision of what God was like. If God was THIS evidently obsessive and petty over the administration of His church and the terminology used to describe him, then it seemed as if He was really no different than the pharisees He condemned when He became flesh. I was extremely relieved to find out that it was just that my catechism on the subject of the schism was woefully shallow and lacking not only christian charity, but good scholarship as well.This book is a wonderful antidote to the arrogant tribalism and triumphalism that passes for "sound Orthodox doctrine" when it comes to the schism. I wish I had read this earlier-it would've spared me a lot of wasted time, anxiety and scrupulosity."You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free"May we be one as Our Lord and His Father are one!

Excellent work on the differences between Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, and the bases for the claims on each side. The author's reflections on the many issues are thorough and concrete, grounded in practical theology and with plentiful references to scriptural and patristic authorities, and the arguments are clear and easy to follow. Without trying to hide his Orthodox perspective, the author is evenhanded with the evidence. This is a serious and balanced investigation, not a polemical work. But it is also prescriptive, not merely descriptive. Appealing to the faith and practice of the Church of the first millennium, East and West, it's an example of how to think ecumenically--attempting to understand each side on its own terms--while remaining faithful to one's own tradition.

GED test 2017, 2016 and GED test premier 2017,They are the same. I have all 3 and there is no difference between them.Are very good books when you combine them with khan academy app videos.

I had been out of school since 2003. A series of unfortunate events led me to have to get my GED. I studied using this book for 4 months on my own time while working full time. I scheduled to take all 4 exams on the same day and wound up passing all of them at the "College Readiness" level or better. This book offers everything you need to pass. (Except the TI calculator. You will need to buy that separately).

This book had everything I needed to know for the test. Their online test setup is identical to the actual GED one. I passed all 4 tests first try and it took me about 3 weeks to study English, a month for math, 7 days social studies and 8 days science. Each time I finished a subject, I took the GED READY test online and then took the Kaplan practice test online. ( It will tell you how to access it when you get the book and register it online) Im also not a native English speaker so I had to translate a lot while studying. The book is simply fantastic!

It's a good study guide. I liked it because I didn't want the kids on the computer all the time. I wanted them to sit and work, focus and ask questions, as I was helping them get through it. Once they did most of the work off of the computer, there are more tests and videos for reinforcement that are on the site linked to their account so overall it was a great resource in my opinion, especially for the cost. If you are looking for a online experience , this isn't for you. The online part is minimal. but the videos are short and to the point good for the problems that they do go over. Item came quickly and was in perfect condition. Overall smooth transaction and was happy with the purchase. The book itself is not all it was hoped to be. It does not prepare you properly for the tests despite being the 2017 edition. My husband studied using this book and completed all of the practice tests for the subject he was testing for. When he went to take the test he said it seemed he had studied for the wrong test based on the actual questions on the GED test itself. He did not feel adequately prepared using what this book offered him. I would suggest using this as a supplemental study guide at best, but look into additional study guides or information out there before actually testing.

Best book on the market for passing all four GED tests. My students swear by it and it really helps them to learn what they need for the test.

My wife was prepping for the GED and she said it really helped get her ready for the test. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that there was several questions that I felt were a little confusion in how they were worded, but maybe that is how they are worded on the test also.

I was impresseed that this book is a study guide for all of the 2017 GED exams. I am using this book in my current GED class.

So many times boundaries were crossed from my inlaws and continue to but I have not known what to do in hope to prevent permanently damaging my relationship with them and theirs with their son (my husband) I bought this book! My inlaws marriage and the disfunction of their family is totally different then mine and there's a cultural difference as well not much but enough to see the difference... they have manipulated my husband and much criticized everything being my fault, we are treated like our family isn't worthy enough to invite over, they complain we live too far for them even see their own grandchildren 25-30min, sometimes my father in law has seen he children alone, my brother in laws look at me and my husband uncomfortably and it's just plain weird and disrespectful, considering no one else treats us with such a negative snobby like attitude, really it's because my husbands step mother is overly critical even states she's happy she never had a girl thank god and causes arguments with my father in law if he doesn't side with her about her viewpoint of me and she cries on command which I don't so then I feel like I've suddenly lost the battle if I even try to defend myself! Every relationship and relationships/scenarios with our inlaws are all different, but this book sure brings some comfort in knowing that you can gain that part of your life back without losing your marriage even if your spouse just doesn't get it. My husband is a good man but he has many times tried to just get me to accept continuously be hurt emotionally from them that I can't even eat in peace when I'm around them bc I feel like I'm being watched like a hawk for any little thing. I'm not much of a book worm but I am finding this book has so much in common with my life that I can't wait to finish it I hope it helps me be able to defend myself as a mother without sacrificing my dignity and self respect, giving me good advise to have a backbone and finally draw some boundaries to stop the emotional damage it's doing to me and my marriage.

3 years into a marriage with a man I loved more than anything and I couldn't understand how his family was still such a point of contention. This book addresses the personality types of deceitful and manipulative people, so rather than you as a spouse pointing a finger, your spouse is able to read from a third party what personality traits are healthy and which are toxic. The title is a little harsh, but the lessons on how to address these characters in the family TOGETHER was by far the most important part. As the book says, in law problems are marriage problems. I so so so highly recommend this book if you feel like you can't win, like you hold your tongue around your spouse's family, or if you are so tired of your spouse not understanding how difficult the people in his/her family are to you. Read this book together!! It's a game changer.

Great book. I only wish I had read it 15 years ago as it seemed like the author was writing about my in laws and the absolutely devastating affect they had on our lives. Although, ironically, I'm not sure I would have appreciated it as much had we not so tragically suffered as a result of their toxicity. Family of origin issues can make a person, especially a child, vulnerable to the world's evil, regardless of their age, and "Toxic-In-Laws" are perhaps the single biggest cause of this vulnerability because they were "toxic parents" long before they became toxic-in-laws. If you even suspect this to be the case in your marriage use this book as guide to fix it immediately because, trust me, left challenged, they can have devastating consequences.

Excellent and helpful book. I'm a grandmother so I bought it to avoid being the toxic in-law. Good advice on dealing with difficult family members without starting a World War. Also good way to analyze your own response and whether it is helping or hurtung.Has the added benefit of being short and to the point.

Susan Forward's books are always well written and this one is no exception. You'll recognize some of your in-laws if there's dysfunction in the family you married into and be offered ways to disengage effectively so their impact on your life is minimized.

This book has been helping my marriage it's absolutely a lifesaver. My husband now is starting to see how toxic his parents are thank God. It's a must buy .

Really good book. Will not help you fix your relationship but definitely explain and help you deal with the situation. It's more a "how to survive" than "how to fix" type of book.

Really great book. I bought this more for dealing with my sister in law, and its still applicable. I recommend this to anyone who has trouble understanding why their inlaws do what they do!

One boy did not play the game so he acted like he did then the popularity of the boys playing it as much went down so the people that did not fit in got obsessed with the game he bought one of these books and drew them then handed em out to the kids that played the game and asked money for them he asked $ 4 I got one forgot the money 1 day at school then the teacher stopped him so then I did not get to pay anything.

I use this to advise others as to roof possibilities and necessary structure. These have come far since the one on Heidi's grandfather's house!

This book was presented with very clear information and I liked the way it was laid out. The photos were also excellent . Lisa Lee Benjamin has been a dedicated plant and soil specialist and world traveler always open to learning and leaving behind inovative new ideas for communities to easily incorporate into their lifestyles. She connects talented people with talented people as she moves forward. She is a true visionary.

There are two aspects of this book that make it stand out from others: firstly, the approach being heavily rooted in the arts with a primary focus on design; secondly, the absolute accessibility of the book for non-professionals. Those of us who are closet (meaning would-be) landscape architects and designers now have a point from which to leap when considering our own projects, even of not of a commercial dimension. A well recommended read in blossoming field.

Let me start off by saying the pictures and variety of green roofs in this book blew me away. Other green roof books I have read have a good deal of information but are limited on the variety of green roofs.This book is a polar opposite of those with its great imagery from green roofs all over the world. Throughout the book it is almost a who's who of green roofs. Which is made possible because every image has a credit that lets you know where it is in the world and who designed it.I found this very helpful in that if there was something that caught my eye, like the English garden planting on the top of Vancouver's Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, I could easily look up more about it.Another aspect of this book that sets it apart is the Q&A sections throughout the book with professionals in the industry. They answer the questions on everything from design to roof membranes. I found these sections to be a nice addition to the information contained in each chapter.In my review title I say it is for the none professionals as well. The reason I say this is because the authors write in an approachable way that makes the topic easy to understand. That along with great images anyone interested in green roofs can learn how they work, find someone to help build one, and dream of what they can do with their own roof.So what's in it for the professionals? There are no recipes for how to build a green roof but there is the process of how to design, create constructions documents and build a green roof. The pitfalls one could run into where pointed out clearly and the questions a professional should ask of his or her team where given.One example of this is the approach of designing a green roof as a part of a building. I thought I could look at it like any other garden design and then lay it over a roof. But the authors stop that line of reasoning and explain how a green roof is part of a building and there are many factors that have to be accounted for from load, to wind, to building performance, to outside views, to accessibility and drainage.These are just the layers of information that earn this book its title. A wonderful all around green roof book for the professional just getting into green roofs or for anyone else that has an interest. An easy 5 Stars.

If you are planning to hire a professional to make a green roof for you, you don't need this book...unless you need the name of a professional. If you are a professional, you shouldn't need this book either. If you are a homeowner looking for creative ideas and suggestions, you will probably be as disappointed as I was. Where is Patrick Blanc and his inspiring living walls?
