About the Author
Josh Appelbaum is a die-hard Boston sports fan from the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. After graduating with an English degree from the University of Vermont in 2009, he moved to Boston and spent the Recession toiling in restaurants and gambling on sports with his friends (unsuccessfully). In 2011, he landed an entry-level position at Sports Insights, a leading sports betting analytics company. "The Everything Guide to Sports Betting" by Josh Appelbaum is one of my new fav sports betting books. It joins "Weighing the Odds in Sports Betting" by King Yao and "Sharp Sports Betting" by Stanford Wong. The advantage that "The Everything Guide" has is that it covers the topic from basic to advance with newer insights into today's markets. Focus areas for me were wagering strategies for the NBA and NCAA basketball.In addition, Josh goes over some important topics for long term survival like: betting to risk versus betting to win – a new concept for me and logical. Also, good coverage of money management techniques like selecting the appropriate bet size and limiting the number of plays. Also, he stresses that you can be a fan but don't bet like one. The one topic close to my heart is the do's and don'ts of Contrarian betting along with how to assess line moves (steam, sharp). With the expansion of sports betting beyond my home here in Las Vegas this is a positive selection for beginner to experienced better dabbling in sports betting.
This is by far the most informative book on how to wager on sports. I have searched forever for a book that actually breaks down the wagering process and how it works. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in sports wagering.
As a new person to the world of sports betting I struggled with finding material that I could learn from. I can honestly say that I became rather irritated because whatever I tried just didn't work or I was unable to understand. I was searching for something that would answer the questions that I had. I purchased the book and have read it cover to cover several times. The information from the book is presented in such an easy to understand manner that I was able to clearly understand. I loved the book and can say that it has made me a better sports bettor. I'm having fun!

An easy read, with a lot of bite-sized nuggets about the entire landscape of sports gambling. Josh's opinions are backed up with data which is appreciated. He provides simple systems for all sports which have proven profitable and allow for even more derivatives. I appreciated the level of detail he provided succinctly. Would recommend this book to begginers and even veterans looking for a refresher.
